David Scott’s Trail, Meghalaya.

The David Scott’s Trail in Cherrapunjee is an easy, beautiful trek that anyone can try. The scenery is beautiful, with streams, tiny waterfalls and hills all around. It takes about 5-6 hours to finish the trail if one walks leisurely- making it a good Sunday activity.

Legend goes that the long ago a British officer fell in love with a local girl. Since her family did not approve of him, he and his beloved decided to elope using this route. It is indeed a beautiful and safe trail full of streams and tiny waterfalls.

This is one of the few trails which can be said to be suitable for people of all ages. Its obviously better to avoid taking this trail in the monsoon season because it can be slightly slippery in case of rain, also there are many streams which need to be crossed. Most of the streams are small which would not pose a problem, but there is one which is considerably larger than the others and one may need the help of a guide. My advise would be to wear shoes that you don’t mind getting wet, there are leeches so wear thick socks and a wind cheater, one can also carry some water and snacks such as protein bars/chocolate to have on the way. If one is interested they can also plan an overnight trip, the guides offer overnight camping trips with arrangement made for food etc.

There is a famous stray dog who lives here, she guides the tourists when they are crossing her territory. She is very friendly and loved by the local people.
